Roadmap to Cleansing for Radiant Skin

Roadmap to Cleansing for Radiant Skin

Your skincare journey is one with many twists, turns and even detours over the course of your lifetime. But if there’s one starting point we can all agree on, the road begins and ends, every day, with clean skin.

Cleansers remove makeup, excess sebum, and dirt – which is especially important in cities and urban outlying areas where the environment can have a harsh effect on your skin. When your face is clean, it allows the other products in your skincare routine to work even better.

Step 1: Double-cleanse
At Luzern, we believe cleansing is essential to good skincare. So important, in fact, that a double-cleanse is incorporated into every one of our facials.

We begin with an oil-based cleanser to dissolve surface impurities without irritating skin. Oil-based cleansers attract other oils, so they’re ideal for lifting away makeup and sebum. A jojoba oil-based cleanser like Luzern’s L’Essentials Pure Cleansing Crème is rich in natural lipids and gentle enough for delicate skin, yet dissolves every trace of makeup and dirt.

A water-based cleanser is the next essential step in our cleansing routine. Water-based cleansers like foams and gels rinse away dirt and impurities from the top layer of skin. These water-soluble particles emulsify in the lather of the surfactant so they can be easily rinsed away.

Our newly reformulated L’Essentials Micellar Cleansing Water is a bit of a hybrid: a gentle, non-lathering cleanser that draws away surface impurities, makeup, bacteria and environmental impurities like a magnet, without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. It has a fresh, clean scent and a light, refreshing texture, perfect for spring or summer, and incorporates clean glacial water with pure, rich nutrients sourced in the Swiss Alps!

Step 2: Drink Water
Drinking water helps your skin look and stay healthy. If you’re not drinking enough water, it will show on your face. Dry, flaky, tight skin are all signs of dehydration. Besides the obvious discomfort, why does this matter? Dry skin can lead to a compromised skin barrier – which means less resilience when it comes to defending against environmental aggressors. Water also helps flush toxins from your body and carry nutrients to cells. In addition to drinking eight glasses of water per day, invest in a hydrating moisturizer to keep skin soft and supple.

Step 3: Mist Your Face
Facial mists keep skin feeling hydrated, balanced and refreshed, which is especially important as we roll into summer. Depending on your skincare needs and the type of mister you choose, a quick spritz can infuse skin with much-needed dose of hydration, calm and refresh overheated skin, set makeup, create a radiant glow, or mattify an oily complexion. Misting can also help protect skin from environmental damage.

Step 4: Choose Wisely
Everyone has different needs when it comes to their skin. Look for a cleanser geared toward your skin type. Consider key ingredients and their benefits. For example, some cleansers may include exfoliants that remove dead skin cells to reveal brighter, fresher-looking skin. Emollients help replenish moisture lost from the skin. Humectants help retain moisture and draw it into the skin. Whatever you choose, when you wash your face, your cleanser should leave your skin feeling clean, soft and refreshed, not tight and dry.

Keep skin healthy by avoiding harsh soaps and chemical irritants that can increase skin sensitivity and disrupt the skin’s delicate balance. One of the keys to healthy, glowing skin is to keep your skin's pH in balance. Take care of your skin and it will take care of you.

Healthy skincare tip: Whether you’re splashing, sipping, misting or toning – water is essential to clean skin and good skincare.
